Educational Philosophy
The Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis (TICP) endeavours to strike a balance between professional training and scholarly education. The curriculum promotes these dual goals through seminars integrating theory and practice.
The aim is to develop the ability to think critically about several major points of view in psychoanalysis (drive-structure, relational-structure, and self psychology) and to formulate clinical material from a variety of viewpoints. In order to accomplish this, the curriculum reflects a comparative-integrative perspective which compares and contrasts theoretical positions, maintaining a focus on the historical context in which the theory developed, the scientific-philosophical assumptions inherent in it and, where relevant, the personality of the theorist.
Currently, the TICP offers 3 educational programs:
- 4-YEAR PROGRAM IN PSYCHOANALYSIS
- 1-YEAR ESSENTIALS OF PSYCHOANALYSIS PROGRAM
- 3-YEAR PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY PROGRAM
The FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM is no longer running at this time.
