Diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

A new cohort beginning

July 2025

This intensive three-year program provides a thorough foundation for transitioning into a career in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Designed and approved to meet the registration requirements of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), it combines graduate-level academic preparation with extensive clinical training, equipping graduates for confident and competent professional practice.

Comprehensive Training & Structure

In Year 1, students commit to six hours per week for class preparation and instruction. Led by expert faculty, the 360-hour didactic curriculum explores psychoanalytic theory, clinical technique, and ethical practice. In-person classes, held Thursday evenings from September to June, provide an engaging environment for dynamic discussion and deep immersion in the discipline.

In Years 2 and 3, training intensifies with an additional 12-hour weekly commitment in the TICP Community Clinic, where students work one-on-one with clients under supervision. Beginning with a single case for 12 weeks, caseloads gradually build to 8-10 clients, providing rich experience in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The clinic operates seven days a week, including three evenings, allowing for flexible scheduling.

Supervision: The Heart of the Program

From the very first month, supervision is central to the learning process. Two 50-hour supervision experiences with seasoned clinicians provide personalized instruction, integration of knowledge and uses of self, and ongoing mentorship. Supervision fosters self-awareness, therapeutic skill development, and professional responsibility, shaping students into competent and ethical psychotherapists.

Evaluation & Advancement

The Program Committee closely monitors student progress through regular evaluation, focused on mastery of both theoretical knowledge and clinical competence. Transcripts, detailing each component of training, are provided to students, the CRPO, and the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.

By program completion, successful graduates will have the expertise, confidence, and clinical experience for private practice in private practice, institutional settings, and psychotherapy clinics.
