Essentials of Psychoanalysis
This program is open to anyone interested in gaining a foundational understanding of psychoanalytic theories and their application to practice. The program also provides a solid base for those considering other TICP programs.
Classes are held once per week, on Tuesday evenings from September 2025 until May 2026, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
THE NEXT CLASS BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER 2025
Students participate in synchronous learning in the weekly live seminars via videoconference.
A 30-Session Certificate Program
The program consists of weekly two-hour seminars covering the following topics:
- Introduction to the Psychoanalytic Frame of Reference
- Analytic Attitude
- Analytic Listening
- Attachment Theory
- Character
- Concepts of Development
- Unconscious Dynamics
- Relationality
- Concepts of Development
- Unconscious Dymanics
- Relationality
- Concepts of Change
- Empathy and Mentalization
- Transference
- Countertransference
- Contemporary Perspectives on Psychopathology
- Psychoanalytic Interventions
The final six seminars will be devoted to case presentations and will be led by senior clinicians. Class members working in a psychoanalytically informed way will have the opportunity to present cases and clinical process will be discussed.
Tuition
$2,000 (which includes Guest Status in the Toronto Society for Contemporary Psychoanalysis for the duration of the Program.)
